As part of the revamping of the new DB Studio web site, we rebuilt the content management system. This involved looking at taking a fresh look at what the client needed and how to make it easier to use. The result is a very clean simple portal with lots of white space and simple, easy to use navigation. It maintains the theme and feel of the main website thus emphasing the new brand image.
In addtion, to what can be seen, we improved the coding for speed of use and security. Improved page load was achieved by reducing the amount of code on the page and using tableless layout, W3 compliant and cross browser compliant.
The original CMS used FCKEditor but an early version that was incompatible with Safari. Being a design house, naturally the team uses Macs and they were unaware that the CMS was not working as designed. FCEditor has We have added the latest version – currently 2.6.4 which has full compatibility with Safari.
A new feature in their site was adding dynamic header metas to the main page of the site. The portfolio page showcases current work being undertaken and it is driven from the database. This resulted in a large number of pages having the same meta headers and clearly was a wasted opportunity for search engine optimisation. Now that this facility has been added we can customise the met information for each page. The emphasis is on simplicity and ease of use for the client.
In addition, the url was converted to a search engine friendly format using a combination of new php code and Rewriterule in the httpd.ini file.
